Preparation for Diagnostic Test

Magnetic resonance close
MR scanning unallowable is if the patient has metallic elements in the body, such as: cardiac valves, pacemakers, orthopedic plates, prosthesis, arterial clamps, metal parts of dentures, metal particles, or gunshot bullets. Patients suffering from claustrophobia (the fear of small enclosed places) - should be given mild sedatives before the exam in order to alleviate the fear. The patient should not eat for 6 hours before the exam.
Patients must remove their watch, jewelry, metal objects, or belt. Leave your mobile phone and magnetic card in the cabin - no metal objects are admissible in the room where the MR scanner is located.
Inform your doctor if you are allergic to the contrasting medium or chemical substances. Patients who take insulin should have their exam scheduled in the morning - please take the insulin and a breakfast with you. If the patient is on constant medication, he or she may take it as usual with some still mineral water.
Empty your bladder before the exam.
The exam is entirely painless. -
Computer tomography close
Wear comfortable and loose clothing to the exam, ensuring it does not contain any metal elements, such as buttons, buckles, safety pins, or brooches. If the exam is performed at LUX MED Clinic, the patient will be given a single-use gown. Remove your jewelry, glasses or hearing aids.
Patients who are allergic to contrasting medium should inform their doctor about it.
If it is necessary to give the patient an intravenous contrast, it is advisable not to eat 5-6 hours before the exam. If the patient is on constant medication - he or she may take the medication on the day of the exam, possibly 3-4 hours before at the latest.
In the case of abdominal cavity tomography, the patient is given oral iodine contrasting medium. At LUX MED Clinic, the medium is administered by a technician shortly before the exam - 40-50 ml of UROPOLIN or UROGRAFIN is dissolved in 2 liters of water. The solution must be taken 2 hours before the exam. However, it must be taken slowly not to cause diarrhoea. After drinking the solution hot flushes or metallic taste in the mouth may be felt. The exam is entirely painless.
The exam should not be performed in pregnancy. Whenever in doubt, please contact your doctor.
Breastfeeding patients should discontinue breastfeeding for 24 hours after the exam.
If the following symptoms appear after the exam:
* headache
* breathlessness
* palpitations
* or itching,
they may signify an allergic reaction - inform your doctor immediately. -
Mammography close
Mammography is performed without any prior preparation. Wear two-piece clothing to the exam in order to be able easily to remove clothing above the waist. Take a bath on the day of the exam. Do not use any deodorant, talcum powder, lotion or cream from the waist up. In menstruating women, the best time to perform the exam is between 5-10 day of the cycle. In menopausal women, the exam may be carried out any day.
Bring with you previous mammae examination results, including the scan, if any. -
X-ray of lumbar spin close
Please take X-PREP (a prescription laxative you can buy in a pharmacy) on the night preceding the day of your examination. A light breakfast is allowed on the day of examination.

X-ray of abdominal cavity close
2 - 3 days before the exam the diet should be light: do not eat fruit and vegetables, or drink juices and sparkling drinks.
In the case of an urography, inform your doctor if you are allergic to iodine or contrasting media, or have any other allergies.
For 2 days before the exam take Espumisan at a dose of 3 times 3-4 capsules daily.
One day before the exam at around 4 pm and at around 8 pm, take 20-45 ml of Phosfo-Laxative, washing it down with a large quantity of water (3-4 litres). This medication is available at a pharmacy without prescription.
On the day preceding the exam do not eat supper.
The exam must be performed on an empty stomach.
Before the contrasting media may be administered, an enema with " ENEMA" should be taken (available without prescription). -
Urography close
2 - 3 days before the exam the diet should be light: do not eat fruit and vegetables, or drink juices and sparkling drinks.
In the case of urography, inform your doctor if you are allergic to iodine or contrasting media, or have any other allergies.
For 2 days before the exam take Espumisan at a dose of 3 times 3-4 capsules daily.

Ultrasound of abdominal cavity close
1. On the day preceding the exam take Espumisan at a dose of 3 times 3-4 capsules (an antigas medication - available at a pharmacy without prescription).
2. Do not eat 6 hours before the exam - it is not advisable to drink alcohol, coffee, sparkling liquids, or smoke.
3. On the day preceding the exam, the diet should be light and sparse.
4. The same steps should be taken before ultrasonography of the: kidneys, kidney arteries, portal vein, aorta, gynecological ultrasonography - (through the abdomen).
5. For correct assessment of the bladder and other organs in the smaller pelvis ( including prostate in men) it is necessary to perform the exam with a full bladder. To this end, drink 1-1.5 litres of non-sparkling liquid 1 hour before the exam. Sometimes the doctor may recommend repeating the exam with an empty bladder .
6. It is recommended to show your doctor the previous exams results. -
Breast Ultrasound close
1. The exam is best performed between 1-10 day of the menstrual cycle.
2. It is recommended to show the doctor the previous tests results, including mammography, (if any).
